As a weaker US dollar boosted its appeal, gold started the new year on an upbeat note. After reaching 17-month peak on January 25th close to $1,370, it finished with a gain of 3%.
Testing the $1,400-handle, catching many investors who were expecting prices to continue higher by surprise, the yellow metal has bee on the back foot.
